With the Browser Width condition moving into Advanced Ads Pro, we have renamed our Responsive Ads add-on to “AMP Ads”. This document provides information on what this change entails and any measures you might want to take.
Provided you run our Advanced Ads Pro plugin standalone, or as part of the All Access plan, none of these changes and measures are to be considered critical. The removal of add-on plugins, described below, is technically not necessary, and the explanations are provided simply for your convenience and to keep the complexity of your WordPress installation as low as possible.
Changes to add-on features
Overall, these changes are a bonus for Advanced Ads Pro users. This change is insignificant if you have an All Access license because we only moved some features from one add-on to another.
These transferred functions include:
- setting minimal and maximal browser width to display ads
- reloading ads when the user changes the screen size, e.g., by flipping a mobile device from portrait into landscape mode
- forcing responsive image ads if not supported by the theme
These features are now included in Advanced Ads Pro because, on websites using caching, you need Advanced Ads Pro’s Cache Busting feature to make them work reliably.
Immediate requirements for Advanced Ads Pro users
Assuming you are using Advanced Ads Pro or have a valid All-Access license, follow the steps below.
- Please update Advanced Ads Pro to the most current version.
- If it is installed, please update the Advanced Ads Responsive Ads add-on to the most current version—you’ll notice the name change to “AMP Ads”.
If you have added the Browser Width condition to your ads or placements, Advanced Ads will automatically keep these assignments. You will not need to make any further adjustments here.
Removal of the AMP Ads add-on
After going through the update routines, you are ready for the removal of the AMP Ads add-on. This step only affects you if these checks apply to you:
- You do have Advanced Ads Pro installed and updated to the most recent version.
- You do not utilize ads on AMP pages.
- You do not use the custom sizes feature for responsive AdSense ad units.
- You do not set default AdSense sizes to rectangular, vertical, or horizontal sizes.
- You do not customize Adsense Responsive Multiplex ad units for desktop and mobile in your WordPress backend.
If you use any of the features listed above in your ad setup, keep the AMP Ads add-on installed and activated.
Immediate requirements for users who run Responsive Ads without Advanced Ads Pro
In the unlikely case that you still have an active license for the Responsive Ads add-on but neither for All-Access nor for Advanced Ads Pro, you should wait to update Responsive Ads. Otherwise, if you use one of the moved features, you will lose them with the update. Therefore, keep the previous version of Responsive Ads (1.11.0) active to continue using all the features, and contact us to get an attractive offer for a license upgrade.
