Use these placements to embed ads in Youzify

Once you have set up Youzify, you will see different types of pages, such as the overview page, each member’s profile page, and member and group pages with their respective streams.

Two placements are available to insert ads into these pages automatically: the dedicated BuddyPress Content placement for injection into the streams and the comments below them as well as the Custom Position placement. 

With the Custom Position placement, you can target other potential ad spots, such as between comments in the comment tab of the profile view, between sidebar elements, or below the header.

Of course, you can also integrate other Advanced Ads placements on the community pages that are not bound to the content container, such as pop-ups, sticky, or background ads.

The dedicated BuddyPress Content placement

Remember, when setting up the BuddyPress Content placement, multiple positions are available to achieve appropriate ad positioning. To integrate ads into the activity streams of a Youzify page and its accompanying comments, choose the placement option “Before activity entry” or “Before activity entry comments”.

Advanced Ads inserts these ads repeatedly into the stream. For instance, if you display an ad after the third activity item, the same ad will also appear after the 6th and 9th items, and so on. To prevent this recurring insertion, utilize the corresponding ad’s ‘Display only once’ function.

A recommended strategy is inserting an ad group after every 4th or 5th item instead of after each one. This ad group can house multiple rotating ads, thereby preventing ‘banner blindness’ and showcasing a variety of ads to your users.

If you have many ads in a group, consider activating the Ad refresh option with a long refresh interval of, say, five seconds. This approach will allow you to display a wide array of ads to your visitors, even without them scrolling extensively.

The Custom Position placement

Using the Custom Position placement, you can insert ads into any additional position outside the streams on your Youzify pages. To select the appropriate selector for Advanced Ads to place the ad, use either your browser’s inspector tool or the picker available in the placement options.

Here are some examples of selectors for popular ad positions in Youzify. :

• For placement below the header and navigation: div#youzify-bp > div.youzify-content > main.youzify-page-main-content
• For placement between elements on the Posts tab, e.g., after the 3rd post: div.youzify-tab-post:eq(3)
• For placement above the 2nd comment on the Comments tab: .youzify-tab-comment:eq(2)
• To position above every second comment on the Comments tab: .youzify-tab-comment:nth-of-type(2n)
• On the Media tab, above respective content: .youzify-media-group-photos

If you intend to insert advertisements in various positions outside of the streams, create multiple Custom Position placements. For a meticulous ad setup, you can further target the entire placement with display and visitor conditions.

BuddyBoss Group

Use the BuddyBoss Group display condition to target automatic ad insertion on specific group streams. Add this condition to the dedicated BuddyPress placement or any individual ad. This display condition recognizes existing BuddyPress groups and allows you to show or hide ads in their streams selectively.

A typical use case is targeting garden group members with ads for excellent garden equipment while showing cooking-related advertisements to foodie group members.

BuddyPress Profile Field

Members of your BuddyPress community can personalize their profiles by filling out customizable fields such as interests, gender, or language. To target ads based on this information, utilize the BuddyPress Profile Field visitor condition.

This condition lets you select from the established profile fields and check specific information. For instance, in an outdoor community, you can display gender-specific ads for outdoor clothing based on the gender information provided by the user.

User Role

In certain scenarios, targeting ads based on your visitors’ membership status can be beneficial. A common use case for this targeting is online communities that sell paid memberships, offering access to exclusive content or an ad-free experience.

By default configuration, BuddyPress assigns the Subscriber role to users who register as members. You can selectively show or hide ads or placements for specific user roles by utilizing the Advanced Ads User Role visitor condition.

Additional add-ons like BuddyPress – Member Types Pro allow you to easily set up more complex membership structures and link them to existing WordPress roles. In a case like that, make sure to embrace the Role condition as described above for ad targeting.
